To the right is a very rare picture of the sanctum sanctorum of the famous temple,at Tirumala-Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. In fact, this is the only photograph ever taken of the main deity. The temple is situated in an unique natural formation,i.e, a plateu, situated at a height of 2000 feet, ringed by seven hills, with heights of about 2500 feet. Between 50000 to 100000 pilgrims visit the shrine every day !!. This is possibly the most visited temple in the entire world.
The deity above is known by various names such as Sri Venkatesvara,Sri Venkatachalapaty, The lord of the seven hills, Balaji, etc and is an incarnation of Sriman Narayana, the supreme Brahman.
Visishtadvaita Philosophy.                    This is the philosophical system follwed by Srivaishnavas(Those who regard Sriman Narayana as the supreme almighty,i.e, the Brahman of the Vedas.) This system can be traced back to the Vedas and hence to times immemorial. However, in historical times, this system was clearly enunciated and put on a firm logical foundation by RAMANUJA(1017-1137 A.D). This system  holds that the entire universe of living beings and inert matter is the body of Sriman Narayana. The purpose life is to break the infinite cycle of births and deaths by attaining Sri Vaikunta, the eternal and blissful abode of Sriiman Narayana. For this one must attain the grace of a true Acharya (Preceptor) and surrender to the lord through him. With out a true acharya, there is no salvation.
